Tennis Elbow Therapy

Tips to cure your chronic tennis elbow pain.

Tennis Elbow Therapy, Cure Tennis Elbow Pain

Let’s start from the beginning. Tennis elbow is an injury to the muscles and tendons on the outside (lateral aspect) of the the elbow that results from overuse or repetitive stress.

For tennis players this injury is often a result of (1) a one-handed backhand with poor technique (the ball is hit with the front of the shoulder up and power generated from the forearm muscles), (2) a late forehand swing preparation with resulting wrist snap to bring the racquet head perpendicular to the ball, or (3) while serving, the ball is hit with full power and speed with wrist pronation (palm turned downward) and wrist snap which increases the stress on the already taught extensor tendons.

Enough of the technical stuff…your elbow is killing you  and you need a remedy…some therapy…maybe some treatment. Well, here’s an overview of a variety of tennis elbow therapy.

Your first objective is to eliminate the inflamation in the tendon that is causing you the pain. Begin by placing an ice pack on the area of pain for 20 minutes. Do this treatment 5 or 6 times a day if you can, until you notice the pain subsiding.

At the same time you need to rest your sore arm. Please understand that I am not suggesting "absence of activity". On the contrary. Stay active, excercise and use your arm. Just stay away from the activity that is hurting you.

Gentle stretching of the forearm muscles is the next recommendation. Follow the examples in this article. Stretching will bring you amazing relief.

And lastly, to round out your home version of physical therapy for tennis elbow, you must strenthen your forearm. The excercises below are excellent.

Remember, each of us is different. No single teatment of method has been shown to be totally effective in every case. So, keep at it and try different methods until you find the one that works for you!
